Nurse’s Notes

Hello!

What a busy week with parent/teacher conferences, speakers and again, illnesses! I think we are seeing (only a couple confirmed diagnoses) Influenza A now, mainly in our elementary group. The main symptoms the students have presented with are fever, aches, and chills. If your student is diagnosed, the recommendation is to be out of school/work for 4-5 days. If not diagnosed, please continue to follow the illness policy. I suggest you have your student stay home one extra day after the fever breaks/your student feels better as many are coming back too soon and then getting run down again.

As with any respiratory/viral infection, I encourage you to take common sense, everyday preventative actions to stop the spread of germs. 1)Stay home if sick; 2) Cover coughs and sneezes; keep your hands away from  your face; 3) encourage surface cleaning; and last but most importantly, 4) WASH YOUR HANDS with soap and water for 20 seconds or use an alcohol-base hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Please make sure your preschool-5th grade students have an extra set of pants at school; with the wet weather, accidents and spills, many students are needing to change into a dry pair of pants. If your student comes home in a pair borrowed from the office, please launder and return.

Have a great week!
