Title I WWWWW

Title I is a federally funded program that is designed to help children who are working below grade level in either reading or math.  We receive funds directly from the State Department that are specifically designated for use in the Title I program.  We use these funds to run our program.  This pays for the teachers’ salaries, classroom supplies, and teaching materials.  We have also used the Title I money to create a large lending library of Guided Reading books that teachers may use for their classroom reading programs.

Students are selected for the Title I program by looking at several things.  The first thing we look at are the students’ test results from the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and the MAP tests. Next, we look at the students’ performance in the classroom.  Then we talk with the classroom teacherst to get their opinion of the students’s performance.  Working together in this fashion, we feel we get a better picture of the students’a abilities and needs.  From this process we make up our lists of Title I students.  Parents are consulted about placing their child in the Title I program and have the right to opt out of the Title I program by signing a paper.

Title I students come to the Title I rooms to work with their teacher.  Sessions are generally 30 minutes, 5 days a week.  Due to conflicts in schedule, this is not always feasible.  We then schedule as much time as we are able to for these students.
