K-6 Student Assembly

The November Assembly for students in grades K-6 focused on Bullying and to Celebrate the B.U.G.S. A special thank you to the Kiwanis Members who joined us today to hand out the certificates to our B.U.G.S Award Winners
This year elementary students will be bully blockers in an effort to promote kindness and respect in our school. The curriculum is called the “Tough Kid Bully Blockers Book” and is written by Dr. Julie Bowen, Dr. Paula Ashcraft, Dr. William Jenson, and Dr. Ginger Rode.
We chose this curriculum because research has shown that the most effective way to combat bullying in schools is by empowering bystanders to recognize and stand up to bullying.
Each month, students will practice different bully blocking skills through film clips and preventative classroom activities. Students will learn and follow the bully blockers pledge, which reads “I agree not to bully other students. I will help students who are bullied by speaking out and getting adult help. I will include students who are left out”.
Students will discover what bullying really is and learn tools to help them if they are bullied or witness bullying. Students will also learn friendship and problem-solving skills and focus on being self-confident in order to buffer the negative effects of bullying.
